The Souvenirs of Michael Hughes

Souvenirs is a selection of travel souvenirs photographed in their real locations by photographer Michael Hughes.
.
The basic idea is that you take an image on a postcard or a souvenir of a place like a model or a plate, hold it up, and take a photograph so that the souvenir is overlaid on the real place and takes its place in the view….
The project started in 1999 at the Loreley. The Loreley are cliffs on the Rhine river near Mainz, Germany. Mythology has it that the cliffs were occupied by a beautiful blond damsel who lured ships to their deaths. He had a postcard in the pocket which he bought for his daughter and realized he was standing on the same spot as the photographer, and the project began.
