Animals and Nature in Digital Camera magazine
The Digital Camera magazine Photographer of the Year contest is the leading competition for anyone with a passion for digital photography and is open to both amateur and professional photographers of any nationality. Its aim is to reveal the most inspirational and imaginative photographers from around the world.

Animals & Nature is one of the six categories, with thousands of pictures to choose from, it’s not surprising to hear that the judges found it hard to pin down winners in this category.
The picture above has won the 1st place. “An image which shows that there’s more to animal photography than the standard shot,” commented one judge. “The whole image grabs you as it shows you what we often overlook in domestic creatures.” This sentiment was echoed by many on the panel. “Expert control of depth of field and pin-sharp focusing combine to create a highly unusual, almost abstract view of an everyday subject… very original - such a clear view of a cat’s tongue that few people will have really seen close up like this before… an unusual subject and take on an animal photo.”
